Tucked behind the Phoenix Theatre, nestled in the center of London’s hub-bub and bustle you’ll find Phoenix Garden, a lovely volunteer run community garden. It’s a haven for birds equipped with feeders and nest boxes,a good spot for frogs with a pond in the corner and the benches are perfect for locals and tourists who’d like to rest their legs and have a look through their guide books in peace.
A friend led me to the garden a little over a year ago and I now point others there at every chance thanks to her.
How to find it:
The garden is located off of St Giles Passage and Stacey Street, north of Shaftesbury Avenue and east of Charing Cross Road.
Nearest tube stations:
Tottenham Court Road or Leicester Square
Opening times: 8:30am – dusk
Last May, the volunteers ran a beautiful fayre featuring craft stalls, a petting farm, a local honey stall and bee farm, Morris dancers, Punch & Judy. A yummy baked stall called ‘Accidentally Vegan’ was a highlight, serving Mother-made organic cookies, eclairs, macaroons, meringues and other treats from North London.
You can visit here : www.accidentallyvegan.co.uk
I’m looking forward to Phoenix Garden’s fayre in 2011!
