I was asked to collaborate with Yellow Bird Project for a covers compilation and the producer I met and worked with on Young Colossus in London, named Nic Nell, suggested we try recording a version of ‘Afraid of Everyone’. I love the lyrics and imagery in the song and we had fun building a different sound setting. Eleven of the thirteen songs on The Still Life were recorded in Athens, Georgia with Andy LeMaster and I felt this cover was at home sitting amongst the other songs. I hope you enjoy this version, and if you aren’t already familiar with the original – do give it a listen.

‘The Rain’ is about the constance and reliability of nature and the change of seasons accompanying the shifts and changes in relationships.

The idea I wanted to share in this song is that there is peace to be found and felt in the fact than nothing stays still.

Sometimes there are moments, views and sensations that are so special and beautiful that it can be heartbreaking to accept they can’t remain and last forever.

Energy is forever though.

Accepting that everything in the world as we know it, moves and changes, ebbs and flows is something I’ve been thinking about quite a bit. It’s essential and vital that things keep flowing.

A cocoon cannot be a larvae’s home forever as comfortable as I hope and imagine it must be.

The video was compiled with the great helping hand of Rachael who dove into the realm of public archive footage for the ark.

I wanted the video to celebrate the different traditions, past times and uses of water in other cultures.

We are roughly made of up to 60 – 70% of water and still cannot get enough if it!
