Happy Summer to you.

If you’re in or around London next month, you’ll be able to find an exhibition of visual artwork by musicians and artists who hold D.I.Y ethics close to heart and mind. ‘DIY is all you need’ opens on Friday 1st June (7pm – 11pm) at Utrophia – 120 Deptford High Street, SE8 4NS

and it will run through till 17th June. Entry is free and Utrophia will be open from Wednesday – Saturday, 11am – 6pm.

I will be displaying some of my artwork along with works from Rachael Dadd, ICHI, Will Newsome, Carrie Hitchcock, Jeffrey Lewis, Rozi Plain, François Marry (François & The Atlas Mountains), Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) and many others.

This collection of art pieces encompasses painting, drawing, monoprint, clothing, textiles, sculpture, animation and film.

Colouring in with sound!

Happy April to you, I hope Spring is bringing goodness your way.

I came across a musical project called ‘Icons of Andria’ by some wonderful musicians from Long Beach, CA ; Rodney Sellars of The Year Zero and Ken Negrete, Fabiola Sanchez of Familiar Trees. The artwork for the album is by Rodney Sellars and he will begin to colour in ‘The Girl Who Knows Where The Stars are’ after the song has been listened to 500 times.

It’s worth having a listen and seeing where the artwork travels to…

The “Luna” tarot card signifies good luck and a safe voyage through time and space but also from this existence to the next.

“The Girl Who knows Where The Stars Are” as she is often called, dwells in the heavens and is familiar with the ways there. This allows her to see the lines of benevolent destinies within the web of all possible futures.

Happy spring to you!

Something special has sprung for the season ; Young Colossus, an illustrated book and soundtrack written by Orlando Weeks.

You can have a listen and learn more about the project here.

Orlando and Nic Nell built the sound together and the story was illustrated by Robert Hunter.
You can see some more of Robert’s work here.

I’m honoured to have sung on a few of the songs and hope you enjoy what the fellows have made!

Cotfield Mirrors

Last month, I met Carol and Alan Moncrieff in Gateshead and learnt about the business they run together, Cotfield Mirrors.
They make beautiful hand-crafted mirrors, mosaics and furniture using recycled materials ; drift wood, mirror glass, ceramics, stained glass and reclaimed industrial wood.

You can have a look around their website here and catch them in person at their stall in Bensham, Gateshead. Whilst St. Cuthberts Church on Bensham Road is being renovated, you can find Cotfield Mirrors in “The Chancel” of the church.

  Visit from 11am – 6pm Tuesday to Saturday.

Hello there,

I read about this project over at the Portable Infinite and thought it sounded like fun!

HARMLESS MONSTER

A screening of short silent films with a live musical score.
Movies will be selected by Emma Freeman and Rupert Casady

As the donaufestival 2012 artists-in-residence, CocoRosie will present a music theatre, a dance theatre, and an all-stars concert, organise an exhibition and debut a live film-music project: For “Harmless Monster”, CocoRosie asks you to send your short films and videos in any genre whatsoever.

Rupert Casady and the Australian filmmaker Emma Freeman will make a selection from the submitted films and videos, which will then be scored live during the festival by Coco Rosie and guests. The contributions should be no longer than five minutes long and naturally without sound – CocoRosie will take care of that!

The ladies will be heading back to the states on June 9 to play the Luckman Fine Arts Complex in Los Angeles.
