The Story of Alessi's Ark
Alessi's Ark is the musical / visual project of London born, Alessi Santos Laurent - Marke.
Aged 11, Alessi began playing drums in school bands, inspired by Meg White and started writing and performing her own songs in and around London, aged 16 .
Alessi's debut album ''Notes from the Treehouse' (Virgin, 2009) was recorded in Omaha, Nebraska with Bright Eyes producer and multi-instrumentalist, Mike Mogis. The album featured vocal performances by
Jake Bellows (Neva Dinova), Maria Taylor (Azure Ray) and orchestral arrangements by Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes, Phoebe Bridgers).
Alessi went on to release two E.P's and albums 'Time Travel' (2011) and 'The Still Life' (2013) through Bella Union / YepRoc and extensively toured the UK, Europe, Japan and USA both headlining as well as supporting Paul Weller, M.Ward, Sharon Van Etten, Mumford & Sons, Jenny Lewis, Laura Marling and John Grant amongst others.
Alessi's fourth album 'Love is the Currency' (The Orchard) was released in 2017. In support of Alessi's first writing collaboration with Will White and Jago Jago (Maccabees, Idles, BLANc), she toured the UK and Japan in 2018 and 2019.
Over the years, Alessi has recorded and performed vocals for Neva Dinova, Orlando Weeks' project 'Young Colossus' , Rachael Dadd, Cursive, Thunder Power and Robyn Hitchcock.
Alessi draws inspiration from faith, her love of nature, storytelling and people in her songwriting and acrylic paintings.
Alessi collaborates with her husband and bandmate, Jason Santos, in the Ark and their band
The Walking Trees, with friends, Maximillian Mawdesley and Loic Williams.
Alessi and Jason are putting the finishing touches to the fifth Ark album, recorded at Tesla Studios with producer, David glover.
